Kyle says that offensive native american mascots should be changed and I agree with that, except for the fact that it is extremely difficult to change a mascot. You can't just tell everyone to stop calling you the redskins, or the Arabs, you have to replace almost anything that even has that team name on it. For an example Marquette university's mascot was ounce the warriors; yet they received a lot of public harassment to change it even though it was not even an offensive name.
They had to replace all of their teams uniforms, change the center court symbol, along with a dozen other things that had to be thrown out and replaced because they were "racist" costing the school thousands and thousands of dollars. This probably isn't to bad for a big school like Marquette but imagine how hard it would be for a small high school.
Therefore I think that some organisations should not be so quick to force a school into changing there name unless there is a significant problem with racism.
I am probably a good person but I haven't taken the time to fill out my profile, so you'll never know! |
